The Best Beach in Izola
Svetilnik Beach is the largest and most picturesque beach in Izola. It gets its name from the small white lighthouse located there.
The beach itself is a combination of small pebbles and a concrete platform; the water is shallow at the entrance, but the seabed is rocky in some places, so wearing shoes is recommended.
The best place to enter the water is across from the Vitaminchik bar, though you can also use the 10-meter pier located to the right of the lighthouse; the pier is equipped with two ladders for entering the water.
A large part of the beach is covered with wooden decks where you can relax. Right next to the beach is a lawn surrounded by pine trees, which provides shade on hot days.
The nearest parking lot is Veliki trg, but it can be quite difficult to find an open spot here during the summer.
Visitors to Izola often park their cars at the Ladjedeljnica parking lot, which is 500 m away.
Right in the center of the beach, next to the playground, is the Svetilnik restaurant, which features two spacious terraces with a beautiful view of the bay.
On the western side is the Vitaminchek bar. It serves drinks and light snacks.

The closest parking lot is Lonka, which is about a 5-minute walk away. Another option is the Ladjedelnica covered parking garage, which is a 10-minute walk away and where spaces are almost always available.
The beach is pebbly, and there are concrete slabs right at the water’s edge to make it easier to enter the water. There is no sand. The pebbles are large and can be sharp in places, so we strongly recommend wearing water shoes, especially for children.
Paid restrooms are available during the summer season and are located closer to the dog beach.
During the summer months, beach chairs are available for rent on the beach.
There’s a playground right next to the beach. The beach itself is safe, but there aren’t many shallow areas—for children up to 3 or 4 years old, San Simon Beach is more suitable, as the entry into the water there is gentler and sandy. In any case, water shoes are required.
In the evening after 5 p.m., the crowds are noticeably smaller. Early morning before 8 a.m. is also an excellent choice, as the beach is almost empty then. The beach is most crowded in July and August between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
From the center of Izola, it’s about a 7-minute walk west along Sončno Nabrežje, past the marina to the end. The path is flat and suitable for strollers. From the Diversorio apartments, it’s a 10-minute walk along the same waterfront or through the old town center.
During the summer, dogs are not allowed on most of Izola’s beaches. There is a special beach designated for dogs called Pasja Beach.
Right on the beach is the Svetilnik restaurant, featuring a large terrace and a stunning view of the sea. Closer to the main square is the Vitaminček bar, which is in a great location and comes highly recommended!
The piers are perfect for jumping into the water (the depth allows for it). The sunset at Svetilnik Beach offers one of the most beautiful views in Izola. There’s a playground for kids, and for adults, there’s a terrace with a wide selection of cocktails and beer.
